Ryan Cox - Head Coach
2014 - 2015

Coach Ryan Cox took the reigns as the head football coach for the Leopards program in 2014. Coach Cox was raised in Pottsboro, Texas where he participated in Football, Baseball, Track, and Debate while attending Pottsboro High School. After graduation, Coach Cox attended Texas A&M University - Commerce where he received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Masters of Science in Health, Kinesiology, and Sports Studies. Coach Cox came to Lovejoy after coaching at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD & Texas A&M - Commerce; Commerce High School, Terrell High School, Port Neches-Grove High School. Coach Cox is married to Dr. Katy (Mathews) Cox of Caddo Mills.

2015 Leopards 10-5A District Runner-Up (8-4)
Advanced to the 2nd round of the state playoffs.

2014 Leopards 10-5A District Champions (6-5)
Advanced to the 1st round of the state playoffs.

Matt Green - Head Coach
2012 - 2013

Coach Green in his inaugural season as head football coach of the Leopards had an impressive undefeated regular season and a 13-4A District Championship. Green, who was the District 13-4A Coach of the Year, is known for his offense, which averaged 489 yards and 42.5 points per game in 2013. In his two years as head coach of the Leopards he compiled a 20-6 record and two District Chamionships.

Jim Bob Puckett- Head Coach
2006 - 2011

Coach Puckett coached 30 years of high school football, the last 4 of those years with the Leopards, he retired from coaching to become the full time atheletic director for Lovejoy High School.

2011 Leopards

The 2011 season had the Leopards ranked #3 in the Dallas Morning News Pre Season AAA poll. The Leopards began the season 0-2 with losses to the Argyle Eagles and Paris Wildcats. The team suffered through some tuff injuries early, but pulled together in Leopard style and reached the AAA Division I State Area Round Playoffs against the Celina Bobcats. The Bobcats ended the Leopards run to their third appearance in the AAA Regional Finals. The Bobcats defeated the Leopards 37-17. The Leopards finished the year as AAA Division I Bi-District Champions. Lovejoy finished with 8 wins and 4 losses. Coach Puckett stepped down as Head Football Coach and became Lovejoy’s full time Athletic Director at the conclusion of the 2011 campaign. The Leopards hired new Head Football Coach Matt Green in February 2012.

2010 Leopards

The 2010 season saw the Lovejoy Leopards ranked #1 in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine and the Dallas Morning News. The team fell in the first game to #3 Argyle Eagles 17-14 and then went on to win 11 games in a row. The 2010 Leopards won the 13-AAA District Championship and went into the state playoffs ranked #5. The playoff highlight was a 17-0 shutout win over previously undefeated and #2 ranked Celina Bobcats. The Bobcats had not been shutout since 1996. This win placed the Leopards against the Henderson Lions in the AAA Division I Regional Finals. The Leopards fell to the Lions 36-14. Henderson went on to win the 2010 AAA Division I State Championship. The Leopards Finished the season ranked #9 in the State at 11 wins and 2 losses.

2009 Leopards

The 2009 season saw the Leopard Team return the entire 2008 team for a run at a Championship. This was the first year with seniors on the team. The Leopards finished the season at 12 wins and 2 losses. The Leopards defeated the defending State Champions (Prosper Eagles) in the AAA Division I Regional Finals 24-14. The Leopards then lost in the final 8 seconds in the AAA Division I State Semi-Finals game against Abilene Wylie Bulldogs 31-27. The 2009 team was voted the “AAA Team of the Year” by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. The Leopards finished the season as the 4th ranked AAA Division I team in the State.

2008 Leopards

Inaugural season saw the Leopards finish the season at 5 wins and 6 losses. The team’s first Varsity victory in school history came on September 26, 2008 against the Anna Coyotes 46-19. The Leopards lost to the Van Vandals in the AAA Division I State Bi-District Football playoff 31-14. Van lost to the Prosper Eagles in the Regional Finals, with Prosper winning the 2008 State Championship.
